Warning: You Could be Causing Your PC's Registry Problems!
It's true, most PC computer problems are registry problems. Most of us have learned that by now. But did you also know that some of your personal computer habits could be causing those very registry issues?
An unavoidable element of running Windows, registry errors are created over time through continuous use. A new computer's registry has no errors. Similarly, a computer that's rarely used will probably have a relatively low number of registry errors. But most of us use out computers on a regular or frequent basis, and that usage often includes bad habits that cause lots and lots of--you guessed it--registry errors.
Those bad habits include installing software, downloading content from the Internet, and using a computer in incorrect ways -- things many of us do every day! So what's a frequent computer user to do? Unlearn these bad habits and keep your registry happy!
Downloading Internet Content
We all download content from the Internet. For many of us, it's the main reason we have a computer. Unfortunately, every time we download a piece of content (e.g., a video or audio file) or even simply load pages with ActiveX components, traces of these content items are left in the Windows registry. As with software and hardware installations, these traces usually remain in the registry, leading to errors and poor performance.
Installing Software and Hardware
Don't worry -- I?m not going to tell you to stop installing and uninstalling software and hardware on your computer. It's how you do it that counts. Every time you install new software on your computer, corresponding keys and values are entered into the Windows registry. These keys and values are generally retained by the registry even if you uninstall the software. Left unchecked, these entries can eventually corrupt the registry and compromise your computer's performance.
Similarly, when you change hardware and other peripherals, the drivers essential to make them work with your computer leave corresponding keys and values in the registry. Once again, they remain even after these devices are removed, causing--you guessed it -- registry problems.
Computer Care and Handling
Here's where most of us have developed some really bad habits, small seemingly inconsequential activities that can lead to big registry problems. Deleting software instead of uninstalling is probably one of the greatest offenses, because it leaves what are now invalid components in the registry that can cause all kinds of problems. Even something as simple as shutting down the computer improperly after use can cause registry problems, since new and necessary information is only saved in the Windows registry once its properly shutdown.
So change your bad habits where you can and you'll save yourself a lot of grief. Of course, these are only some causes of registry errors. Get yourself a good registry cleaner to manage the registry errors you can't control to ensure your computer always runs at peak performance.
