How To Prepare A Romantic Dinner For Two

Sometimes, you want to have a romantic dinner at home to mark a special occasion such as a birthday, anniversary, or for no reason at all. You want the entire evening to go perfectly, but may be uncertain of what you should do to make it unique. No matter what the occasion is or whether you are a novice or experienced dinner planner, there are a few tips you may find helpful.

Earlier that day or the day before, clean house. Vacuum, dust, and eliminate clutter. Use a room freshener liberally, preferably one with odor eliminating properties, five or six hours before time. Plug in your automatic air freshener at least two hours before, since they need a little time to work. Choose some background music, preferably soft instrumentals that will not be a distraction.

Clean off the kitchen counters so that cooking will be easier. Unload the dishwasher so that you can add the dirty ones as you go. This reduces the time you will need to clean up later and prevents an untidy stack in case your guest should wander into the kitchen.

Well before time to start cooking, take inventory to make sure you have everything needed for preparing and serving the dinner. For instance, if you plan to serve a green salad, make sure you have not only the vegetables but also the dressing. Compute how long you will need for each item and then estimate a starting time by working backwards.

Set an elegant table. If you have a black dining room set, for example, consider using white place mats for a touch of drama. Make sure the centerpiece will not block your view of your dinner partner. When using candles, use holders with a lot of gold or faceted crystal to catch and reflect the dim light. For tables with a dark finish, consider spreading some red rose petals over its surface.

Use a Camerons stovetop smoker to prepare the meats without the extra heat that an oven can produce. This will let you serve tender, tasty steaks, chicken, or chops with less bother. You can also use it to steam vegetables for side dishes.

Keep the mashed potatoes free of lumps by whipping them with a hand mixer, whether you are using the instant style or preparing fresh ones. There are many ways to make the instant ones more appetizing. Start by altering the directions printed on the box. Reduce the amount of water and replace with additional milk and butter to make them creamier. Stir in some grated cheese or bits of bacon or sprinkle with paprika before serving. However, you should do your experimenting well in advance, so that you know the precise recipe before cooking the special dinner.

A tossed green salad can make an excellent appetizer. Use a mix of both romaine and iceberg lettuces, then add a few cherry tomatoes, olives, and maybe some pecan pieces. You can also mix in some shredded or diced cheese, grated carrots, or minced sweet gherkins. Add your croutons and dressing, toss, and serve. Bottled dressings can be used or you can create your own. One very simple dressing is just ketchup, mayonnaise, dill seeds, and seasoning salt stirred together to taste and then chilled prior to serving.

Dessert can be special without having to be elaborate. Cherries jubilee is a nice choice, but it is not always practical. Instead, consider choices such as fresh peach shortcake, triple chocolate cake served with ice cream, or gingered fruit cups.
