Table Setting Tips For The Holidays

The festive season coming closer means that you are thinking and planning what to do for the holidays. If you are planning to host get-togethers for friends and family, then it is likely that your dining room will be the focal point of the celebration. Since festivities always seem to center around food, drink and merrymaking the dining room furniture and how you adorn it, assumes central significance at this time.

While there is little that you may want to do with the dining chairs, you can do a lot with the table, by adorning it with a custom tablecloth, using fine china, silver, beautiful table linen, ornate centerpieces and so on. Here are some table setting tips for the holidays:

Custom Tablecloth - To create a really unique setting for your holiday feast, begin with a high quality tablecloth. This could be a custom tablecloth or just something that caught your eye. You may decide to use a runner over your tablecloth or not. This depends upon the kind of table cloth you use, you may decide it is too pretty to use a runner over.

The Centerpiece - This should be the focal point of the dining furniture; indeed of the entire dining room. You could pick one that has a holiday theme - something related to Christmas trees, Santa, his reindeer, holly and berries and so on. You could create a rustic looking center piece using pine cones and add a touch of bright color with ribbons as well. Figurines designed especially with the holiday theme in mind are also a popular choice for centerpieces.

On the other hand you could create a fully natural centerpiece by using real fruit - this can be a delicious looking, colorful centerpiece that you can put together quite easily. This can be dressed up by using an exotic pedestal bowl to set off the natural hues and colors. Also you cannot go wrong with a fresh flower arrangement as your centerpiece. These look great and you can color coordinate the flower colors with your table and table settings too.

Candles - You can either use candles as part of the centerpiece of use ornate candelabras that are centerpieces by themselves. Either way, lighted candles can create a wonderfully warm and inviting atmosphere at the table, enhancing the look of your dining furniture. You can also choose not to light the candles, but just use them as part of the centerpiece, along with baubles, ornaments, or even as the center of a Christmas wreath.

The Dining Chair - While many choose to do nothing in particular to the dining chair when it comes to setting a holiday table, there are those who like to dress them up as well. You could hang festive baubles on the chairs, decorate them with a bit of tinsel, or simply put a great big ribbon tied in a bow around the chair back. If you don't want to do this to all the chairs, you could just do it for the two chairs at the heads of the table; or at either end.
