First you have to consider the practicality of the piece of furniture you're looking for. How much room do you have to work with, and what are your expectations? However, if you don't have a lot of room for a piece of furniture, a bathroom cabinet could be a great piece for some additional storage. Also, you have to think about what your expectations are for the piece. Are you hoping to update your lavatory with a beautiful single sink bathroom vanity? These pieces not only instantly transform your bathroom into an elegant retreat, but most offer a great deal of storage space as well. If you're looking to save yourself time in the morning, a double sink vanity might be a better option for you, where you and your spouse could both get ready simultaneously in the morning, and avoid that "are you done yet?" argument that usually follows.

After you know the size and expectations of your decorating, you can get started with the fun stuff; the colors and styles! You'll want to keep in mind the general motif of your home, is it classic and antique, or modern and contemporary? Do you like bright, fresh colors, or dark, rich woods?
