Is it okay to use plastic tablecloths for my father's 61st birthday?

Its an informal affair, we rented out a local Senior center, and I'm having the food catered by a relative who owns her own business. Trying to save $$, everywhere I've looked so far the linen ones to rent are about $11- 12 and I have about 25 tables to do. Or can I mix both types (linen and plastic) -- plastic for all guest tables, linen for the head table and food display tables? What do you think?

I think you should mix both types. As a matter of fact, you could just use linen on the head table. You can use plastic for the food display tables. They will be looking at the food not the table cloths. But the table that your father is sitting at should have a linen tablecloth.
