can i add my own oils to my candles?

i just stated to make candles, and i was wondering if i could add my own essential oils to the wax, before i put them in the mold. all the scents that you can buy are things like apple blossom and fresh linen. i want to be able to make my own. also, the dye for wax if fairly expensive, could i just use food coloring? anyone out there make candles? need some help please! thank you!

The oils should be OK. Alcohol based anything is not. Food coloring is usually water based and won't work. The good news is that candle dyes go a LOONG way and so they're not really expensive comparatively. Just a little bit of the dye will work.
