Hotel/Motel Laws in Illinois?

Currently, my family and I are living in a motel in Ottawa, Illinois, awaiting our apartment to be ready. To save money from eating out, we have been using an electric hot plate to cook our meals on. The owner of the motel confronted my husband this morning stating that he needs to start leaving during the day so the maids can clean the room, and we need to remove the hot plate because cooking is not permitted. Now mind you, we've been staying in this place for a couple of months now, and the maids have only been in the room twice. Both times, they only emptied the garbage. They don't bring us clean linens, we have to wash our own towels, sheets, ect., and we empty our own garbage. We also have to provide our own toilet paper. I'm a little ticked off about him telling us to remove the hotplate, because he also complained when we were cooking on our travel grill, outside. Is there ANY laws regarding any of this?

It sounds like you found the crappiest motel in the state ... they should be cleaning your room , changing linens , towels ,sheets.. providing toilet paper DAILY.
He's got you on the cooking though, use a microwave ... other than that you create a fire hazard.
