How do I stamp on clothing?

I'm wanting to stamp an image on clothing (knit, linen & denim) - I'm not really concerned about if it will wash or not- it's more decorative art than wearable art.
I'd like to maybe try getting a custom made rubber stamp- there are a lot of companies online that do this- but I haven't been able to find one that would do it large enough (about 6" by 6") - also would an ink pad show up on clothing or would it have to be paint- and wouldn't paint be too thick and ruin the stamp after a few uses? Thanks in advance.

First, the online stamp-making company called ReadyStamps (not ReadyStamp) generally uses a field that's 7" x 9" for their orders. That empty field can be filled up with many smaller stamps, one gigantic stamp, or any combination you want:

"Ink" from an ink pad comes as various materials, from dyes to pigment inks to washable inks, etc.
You'd get the best saturation on fabric from a pigment ink (especially on fabrics like the ones you mentioned that *aren't* thin and closely woven)...another thing to think about is that dye inks are usually transparent so won't show up well on darker backgrounds, where pigment inks are opaque.

Generally though, "stamping" on fabric is done with acrylic craft paint, which is opaque (perhaps thinned down with clear acrylic "textile medium" for added softness and suppleness--buy textile medium at craft or art supply stores near the acrylic paints... or just buy "fabric paints").
The paint is usually sponged onto the stamp, or the stamp can be dipped into a pool of paint then tamped a time or two on a paper towel, etc, before stamping to make sure it's not gloppy.
(Special paint pen/brushes can be used too, but generally for paper, not fabric, and definitely not for large thick weaves.)

...then hover over the word "Community" in the measuring tape near the top to see all the *other* main boards at Craftster, many of which would probably have sub-boards with info and projects re stamping on various kinds of fabric (or you could join and ask questions in any of those boards)

None of the paints I mentioned above would damage rubber stamps, but you would want to avoid any paints that have *petroleum-based* solvents in them since they'd eat into the rubber (those that have to be cleaned up with paint thinner, etc.).
Some of the inks could *dye* the stamps though, especially if not cleaned off
