Get Ready For College With The Basics

Say good bye to images of you in baby cribs, you are saying farewell to your baby years and entering adulthood. This can be an exciting and overwhelming time for you. In the midst of all this emotion, make sure you do not forget the essential things you will need when you start your college experience.

Before you rush to pack king quilts for your dorm room, keep in mind you most likely will have no use for them! Your college space will most likely be much smaller than what you are normally accustomed too. So keep the extras at a bare minimum. An essential you will need, that is often overlooked, is an alarm clock. Yes, you will have to take responsibility for getting to class on time.

Now, more often than not, students are skipping the landline option as a telephone and are sticking with a cell phone. If so, shop for the cheapest plan. Make sure you have free long-distance calls for the times you need to phone home.

Think about what you really need in terms of clothing. Remember, you do not have to take your entire wardrobe. Only take what you need because closet space in college is limited. Instead of investing in new clothing, think about investing in a computer. You will probably have access to a computer lab, but owning your own computer will help you study at your own convenience.

Don't forget to pack your bathrobe. You will be traveling from your dorm room to the showers frequently and you will need something to cover you up on your travels to and from the shower. Consider a bathrobe with pockets that can help store your keys. Simple pajamas are also a good investment as well.

Along with your pajamas and bathrobe, flip-flops are essential for your bathroom visits. The shower at college should not be treated as if you were in your own home. There are a lot of germs and grime stuck on campus shower floors. Protect your feet with inexpensive flip-flops.

Invest in a small basket that will help you carry your things back and forth from the bathroom to your dorm room. You will need it to keep your shampoo, soap and other items that you use while in the shower. Make sure its waterproof so it doesn't ruin easily.

You won't need an expensive bedding collection, but you will need basic linens. Find out before you go out to college what size linens you will need. Make sure to bring enough blankets for warmth and pillows for comfort. Towels for the shower and hand towels are a must as well.
