Bed Linen – Cost Versus Quality

As consumers we are able to select our bed linen from a wide variety of colours and materials.  Many are happy to stick with the budget bedding that is readily available and will never consider splashing out what they could see as silly money.  In contrast, some consumers are willing to spend that bit extra to ensure they get the quality that they desire.  But is the extra outlay worth it?

Fabric

The material from which it is made is of course the deciding factor over how expensive bed linen is.  The luxury materials of satin and silk usually cost the most, with cotton being a cheaper option.

Comfort

Most people will agree that silk and satin provide real comfort in the bedroom, however it is worth noting that both naturally drape and cling to the body.  If you are someone that doesn’t like to be restricted in their movement whilst in bed then there are other options.  That doesn’t mean that you can’t treat yourself, with high thread cotton bedding offering superb comfort.  The amount of time that we spend between the sheets means that luxury in our bed linen must be a key concern.

Longevity

When buying bedding we must also consider how long it will last. Why spend the extra money on bedding if it isn’t going to last very long?  This isn’t usually a concern with regards to bed linen and the more expensive sets, be they satin silk or cotton, do tend to have an extended product life.

In summary the amount you opt to spend on your bedding really depends on your preference and circumstances.  If you have always slept well whilst using the cheaper options available then is there really any point in changing? However, if you sometimes find it difficult to get a sound night’s sleep then you may want to invest in some quality bedding.
