I put a color question on here and got ATTACKED. Do you match your BM dresses to room decor?

Am I supposed to have the same color (or shades of the same color) for the tablecloths, napkins, centerpieces, AND bridesmaid dresses? I feel like everyone is going to be wearing different colored clothes anyway, so what do the bridesmaid dresses have to do with the tablecloths in the room?

Originally I wanted purple (different variations of it) but I'm having trouble finding a lot of variety with the color. Most bridal stores only have 1-2 nice BM dresses in a pretty purple, and purple doesn't look good with everyone's skin tone. I am having BMs of different ethnic backgrounds and different skin tones, and would not want to put them in something where they look like hell.

How do you go about coordinating your linen colors, centerpieces, and BM dresses? Are they supposed to match, or coordinate? Why?

I don't think you need to match everything to the dresses. For an example, the BM dresses in our wedding were celery green and the flowers and decorations were all shades of purple - from pale to dark and everything in between. For linens I used white table cloths with alternating shades of purple napkins. The centerpieces were potted flowers in white and purple that the guests took home as favors. Basically the green of the dresses were used as a backdrop for the purples and it looked wonderful.

If you look around you should be able to get various shades of purple - from lilac to eggplant.....even if they aren't all in the same dress! You could let them all pick a style and color they like (in the purple family) and you can keep track of the choices so that no one duplicates it. I think that could actually be fun and gorgeous!
