Now that summer is approaching its time to think about redecorating and sprucing up the place. Now is the time to pack up and store away all of those heavy comforters and dark curtains! For some, summer means fun tropical flair and for others it means light, airy, summer whites.

Either way you choose getting out of the fall and winter décor is a must. Not only does it lift your spirits with all of the bright beautiful colors it also is a perfect time to go through all of your fall and winter clothes and decorations and uncluttered your wardrobe and you home. Here are some decorating ideas and tips to Summerize your home!

• Think about changing all of you heavy comforters to light linen blankets

• Change the whole look of your living room by getting a lighter sofa cover. Also think about getting some pillow slip covers they are relatively cheap and they can make a huge difference.

• If you have dark or heavy curtains think about changing them out for some airy sheers or maybe linen curtains. The best part of summer is the sun so go ahead let it in!

• Get some beautiful green indoor plants, they can really brighten up a space and create that perfect summer vibe. A palm tree can add subtle tropical undertone or a fern can accent a shabby chic cottage style. Check out your local nursery or home improvement store you can find some great deals around spring and summer.

• Now that the weather is warming up you will probably be spending a lot more time outside. Think about investing some money into a good quality patio set, something that will last a few summers. There is nothing better than sitting outside under an umbrella sipping on some lemonade during those warm summer months!

• Big tropical green leaves make a great center piece and focal point for the dining room. Just get a few large palm tree leaves or any large green leaf and arrange them in a visually pleasing way, secure them together and put them in a vase on your table. For an added touch of the tropics try coloring the water in the vase a nice tropical water color with food coloring.

• What comes to mind for most when they think about summer they think light, airy, clean and open. Try taking down some wall art and saving it for fall or pick up all of your rugs for a clean cool summer look.

• Paint. I know you have probably heard this a million times but paint is quick and cheap was to make an instant change. If the idea of painting your whole room is too daunting think about painting one accent wall it can make a huge difference and should only take around an hour or so.

• Change the look of your whole room by just changing the layout of your furniture!

• Take down all of the knick-knacks that you keep up year round and replace them with fun bright summer accessories like sea shells or pictures of the beach. This will freshen up your whole house!
