Don’t Forget To Pack These Dorm Room Essentials

Living in a college dorm is the youths live away from home~first opportunity for many to experience life away from home}. Though most can survive easily enough in the often very basic circumstances there are several things that will make living there less hassle. Often, it's the small essentials that get overlooked.~}

- Cleaning Supplies. Student dorms often become somewhat dirty in a short space of time, particularly if there is a fair amount of socializing taking place. A mop, sponge and disinfectant are useful for keeping this in check.

- Power Strip / Extension Cable. On average, a single dorm room has between 4 and 6 electrical sockets. With appliances, computers, a television, and cell phone chargers~all the electrical appliances that students end up using}, there is a likelihood of being more items requiring electrical power than outlets. It's also common to find them to be placed near each other or in inconvenient places so having an extension cable gives more flexibility to arrange the room as you want.~}

- Private Printer / Scanner. Most campuses provide computer labs for students to work at and to print papers. However, these areas can often be overcrowded and can be restricted to daytime hours of availablity. Being able to print without waiting around or restrictions with a dorm room printer is much less hassle. Large supermarkets normally offer several basic printers at discounted prices that are ideal for students.~}

- Tools. Sometimes, when things break, the building maintenance guys don't come quick enough or claim that it isn't their responsibility. Having basic tools, such as a hammer and screwdriver, makes little accidents less of a problem.

- First Aid Kit / Bandages. While the mentality of college students is one of not needing to be looked after, sometimes a paper cut, shaving knick, or skinned knee needs~minor accidents can occur that need} some attention. A good first aid kit, complete with cold medication, burn ointment, and bandages is a neccesity for any student.

- Additional Bedding. The item that takes up the most space in a dorm room is normally the bed. Since it is the largest object, it is often made use of for more than just sleepinggetting used as a couch, a shelf, or a drying rack, amongst other things.~.} This can quickly result in dirty sheets that need to be washed. {Having spare sets of linens, including a comforter or quilt, sheets, and pillow case, makes sleeping a nicer, cleaner experience.~}

Tapes / Adhesives. A majority of colleges do not allow residents to put holes in the walls of their room so to place posters and picture frames. Having tape or any kind of adhesive helps to hang up pictures, posters, and other decorations without damaging the wall or the {decorations themselves}.~}
