Getting Settled Into College Life

Say good bye to images of you in baby cribs, you are saying farewell to your baby years and entering adulthood. This can be an exciting and overwhelming time for you. In the midst of all this emotion, make sure you do not forget the essential things you will need when you start your college experience.

Before you pack up your car and head off to college you can skip the expensive king quilts you may be accustomed too. The bedding in college will be a lot smaller. Start out with making sure you have a working alarm clock. Yes, very simple but vital! You will need this often in order to get to class on time. You will not have your mom as an automatic snooze button anymore.

Now, more often than not, students are skipping the landline option as a telephone and are sticking with a cell phone. If so, shop for the cheapest plan. Make sure you have free long-distance calls for the times you need to phone home.

Think about what you really need in terms of clothing. Remember, you do not have to take your entire wardrobe. Only take what you need because closet space in college is limited. Instead of investing in new clothing, think about investing in a computer. You will probably have access to a computer lab, but owning your own computer will help you study at your own convenience.

Bring a bathrobe. You do not want to have to deal with going back and forth from your dorm room and shower without one. Try to get one with pockets to put your keys in. Simple pajamas are helpful when you have them as well.

Along with your pajamas and bathrobe, flip-flops are essential for your bathroom visits. The shower at college should not be treated as if you were in your own home. There are a lot of germs and grime stuck on campus shower floors. Protect your feet with inexpensive flip-flops.

A small bin will help you carry your things to and from the bathroom. For instance, shampoo, soap and sponge can all be placed in this basket for easy transport. Make sure it is a waterproof basket because you do not want it to get ruined with your first shower!

You won't need an expensive bedding collection, but you will need basic linens. Find out before you go out to college what size linens you will need. Make sure to bring enough blankets for warmth and pillows for comfort. Towels for the shower and hand towels are a must as well.
